We treat wild animals accordingly. Our animal control specialists take precautionary measures to make sure that both the animal and your family are safe and out of harm’s way.  Wildlife, although they may be nice to watch, can have a devastating effect on your property once they gain entry. The damage that they cause can include structural damage through tunneling or chewing on wood, metal, and even electrical wires which can easily cause fires. In addition, wild animals are carriers of parasites, mites, and diseases that can be spread through the accumulation of fecal droppings and nesting. In some instances, nuisance animals will chew through drywall and wood to gain access into the living quarters of the home.
Homes or businesses provide protection from the elements, they also provide food and water. When all of these components are combined into a central location, it allows the animal to not only survive, but to thrive. Over a short period of time the animal population within your home can quickly multiply. This increases the chances for extensive property damage, fire, and the spread of diseases. When a pest problem is experienced, it is important to act quickly because it will reduce these safety hazards as well as save costs in the long run. We can help you retake control of your property!

Bats are most active at night. Their habitat and behavior vary seasonally. Males and females typically spend the summer months apart from one another. They come together again early fall for mating. After mating, they will spend the winter in sheltered areas to include caves, mines, and attics. Bats have their young from June through July. Generally, bat young are capable of flying in August.
The types of activity associated with bat infestations can include:
  • Droppings stuck to the outside of the home or dwelling.
  • Bat droppings found in attics or basements.
  • Small light scratching heard during the night within ceilings and walls.
Dangers:  Bats are associated with a few diseases that affect people. Rabies and histoplasmosis are the most serious. Rabies is a dangerous, fatal disease. However, the bat’s role in transmission has been greatly exaggerated. Though bats are confirmed carriers of the disease, only a few human fatalities have been attributed to bat bites. Nevertheless, care must be exercised when handling bats and bat bites should be considered potential rabies exposure.
Bats may try to bite when handled and should be picked up with heavy gloves or forceps.
If a bat has bitten someone, it should be captured without crushing its head. Refrigerate it (don’t freeze it). Take it to the local health department for testing.
Effective Control Measures:  The most common bat infestations involve attic infestations. Once properly identified, it is necessary to locate any and all possible entry points and eliminate them through repairs. The exception is to leave one entry hole unblocked where evidence of bats are apparent. This can be identified through brown smudge marks and dropping in front of the entry hole. A bat check valve is then installed at the entry point in order to release the bats from the attic and prevent them from returning. The bat check valve is typically left installed for approximately 10 days depending on the weather patterns.
The ideal way to control rodents is simply to keep them out of your house.  Sounds easy enough, right? Exclusion is much easier said than done.  Mice are serious break-in artists.  They can and will find unnoticed entrances into your home with their extraordinary agility, climbing prowess and ability to squeeze through an opening only ¼ inch wide.  You might not think so, but if you can see light coming in from underneath your doors, a mouse can fit through. Whether your house is five years old or 100, rodents will find any way in they can.
For a solid line of defense against mice entering your home, follow these tips:
  • Use weather strips on doorways and windows
  • Replace broken windows
  • Caulk around utility/service pipes
  • Repair openings in the building’s foundation
  • Screen all vents
  • Seal additional small cracks with copper mesh (steel wool will rust and deteriorate over time).
  • Around the house exterior, rake away any weeds or shrubbery as they provide safe passage to pests
  • Mulch, in particular, should not be used near the foundation, and any overhanging tree branches need to be cut down
  • Do not store firewood within the immediate vicinity of the house.
If you do happen to encounter some unwanted guests, be sure to clean up the area where the rodents lived.  While seemingly harmless, these little critters are known to spread diseases such as hantavirus, rat-bite fever, leptospirosis and lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus.  Not to mention that rodents can and will gnaw through building materials and electronic equipment, adding fire danger to the list of problems they can create.
Tree squirrels are found in forest areas throughout most of the United States. Many species have adapted well to suburban and city life. Occasionally, these squirrels enter buildings and cause damage or disturbance. The most common species that become pests are the gray squirrel, black squirrel, red squirrel, flying squirrel and fox squirrel. Tree squirrels usually build nests in trees. They also may store food and find shelters in attics and garages. Probably the primary way squirrels become pests are by scrambling and scratching inside attics and in wall voids. They have been known to chew on wires.
The types of activity often encountered include fast bounding, chewing, fighting, and the sounds of objects rolling within an attic. Homeowners may also find noticeable chewing on areas on their home.
Dangers: The dangers associated with squirrel infestations include the possibility of squirrels gaining entry into the living quarters of the home, water damage caused from chewing, and electrical fires caused from chewing on wires.
Removal/prevention measures:  The most common squirrel infestations involve attic infestations. Once properly identified, it is necessary to locate any and all possible entry points and eliminate them through repairs. The exception is to leave one entry hole unblocked where evidence of squirrels are apparent. This can be identified through brown smudge marks and dropping in front of the entry hole. A check valve is then installed at the entry point in order to release the squirrels from the attic and prevent them from returning. Thero check valve is typically left installed for approximately 10 days depending on the weather patterns.
